Section 1: Overview

Originator:Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MNDNR)

Title: Inventory of Dams in Minnesota

Abstract: The data set includes information on dam locations in Minnesota and associated permits.

Purpose: The National Dam Inspection Act of 1972 (P.L. 92-367) authorized the United States Corps of Engineers to inventory dams located in the United States. The MNDNR received funding to inventory the dams in Minnesota. The MNDNR currently maintains the inventory of dams in Minnesota.

Section 2: Data Quality

Attribute Accuracy: Values taken from permit applications, engineering reports, field inspections, surveys, USGS 15 minute quadrangle maps, and LiDAR data.

Logical Consistency:

Completeness: This inventory has a complete record of all "significant" dams. This includes any dams that require regulatory attention by meeting sufficient size or hazard class rating requirements, or dams that were evaluated but did not meet size or hazard conditions. It also includes all dams managed by the DNR's Division of Ecological and Water Resources.

Horizontal Positional Accuracy: Accuracy generally within 10 meters. Dam locations either determined in the field using hand held GPS or from air photo maps.

Vertical Positional Accuracy:
