Originator:Minnesota Pollution Control Agency

Title: Surface Water Stations - MPCA Environmental Data Access

Abstract: Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) surface water monitoring station locations, including lake, stream, biological and discharge. Locations of United States Geological Survey (USGS) stream flow stations are also included. This data set was created as part of MPCA's Environmental Data Access project, which was designed to provide internet access to MPCA's surface water monitoring data. The data set contains locational data and limited attributes for all MPCA stream chemistry stations, MPCA lake monitoring stations, MPCA stream biology stations, MPCA permitted dischargers [National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits], and (locations only) of USGS stream flow stations. MPCA lake and stream monitoring stations are the same stations found in MPCA's EQuIS database.

Purpose: The data set was created as part of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's Environmental Data Access System, which allows for public access to surface water monitoring data.

station_id
-
The EDA station ID. This ID is unique within the application. It is a combination of the org_id and the id_code.
wid
-
The MPCA waterbody ID code for the lake, stream or wetland that the monitoring station is located on.
wu_display_name
-
The MPCA's waterbody name and a short description. Stream segments are described using landmarks. Lakes and wetlands are described using direction, distance, and city names.
wu_name
-
The waterbody name.
wu_type
-
The waterbody type. (Lake, Stream, or Wetland)
huc8
-
The USGS Hydrologic Unit Code, level 8, that the station is located within. These are also referred to as Minnesota's 80 major waterseds.
org_id

The source organization for the station. (MPCA, DOT, DNR, USGS, USFS/NPS, COE, EPA, Tribal Governments, WLSSD.
id_code
-
The station's ID as assigned by the source organization.
