Extent of available data.
This data layer indicates the level of sodium in well water. It was developed by the Minnesota Geological Survey using data from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. It includes the chemistry of groundwater from 954 water wells that were sampled between 1993 and 1996. Sodium is a naturally occuring metal and is used in large quanties in Minnesota in the form of salt for road de-icing and water softening. In small amounts, it is essential for human health. In larger quantities in can affect the taste of water. This geochemical data provides a regional context for exploration and environmental management efforts.
