This data layer is the Impervious Surface component of the 2011 National Land Cover Database (NLCD). It was developed by the Multi-Resolution Land Characteristics Consortium and is based on Landsat imagery. It has a resolution of 30 meters. The NLCD is produced in five year intervals with the first version released in 2001. The 2016 version is scheduled for release in 2019. Imperviousness of ground surfaces has implications for water runoff, affecting soil, surface water, groundwater, and stream conditions.
