Extent of available data.
This layer shows lakes in Minnesota that have an active muskie management plan, lake plan, muskie long-range plan, and/or where muskie is cited as a primary or secondary species. Muskie lakes are classified as Native, Introduced, and Introduced-Hybrid waters on this layer. Muskie rivers are not included in this layer. Muskie (or muskellunge) provide unique, high quality opportunities for trophy fishing, so the MN DNR manages a number of lakes for muskies, primarily in the north central region of the state. Muskies prefer lakes with shallow water, a rocky bottom, and heavy cover.
