This data layer is detailed vegetation cover that combines data from the Gap Analysis Program (GAP) analysis project and the LANDFIRE project. It was developed by the United States Geological Survey. Classes were defined using NatureServe's Ecological Systems Classification and modeled by a decision tree classifier. The GAP project aims at prioritizing lands for conservation activity, in addition to uses such as inventorying, land use planning, and spatial analysis. This project combines works of several projects to create a seamless dataset for the contiguous US.
