Extent of available data.
This data layer is the National Land Cover Database (NLCD) 2011 Land Cover. It was developed by the Multi-Resolution Land Characteristics Consortium, a partnership of multiple federal agencies. The data is based on the Landsat satelites and is categorized into 15 classes at a 30 meter resolution. The NLCD is produced in five year intervals with the first version released in 2001. The 2016 version is scheduled for release in 2019. Land cover data provides valuable information on the distribution of different types of vegetation, agricultural activities, water, and human development. The patterns of these distributions and the changes that can be tracked by comparing different time periods, can provide guidance to natural resource managers and planners.
