This data layer indicates the boundaries of areas in which the state of Minnesota has a Surface Interest of type Consolidated Conservation. It was developed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR). It includes areas that are administered by the MN DNR or Minnesota Counties. Consolidated Conservation Lands are held in public trust specifically for conservation purposes. The state gained ownership through tax forfeiture, often being lands with tax assessments for drainage projects in areas where farming proved not to be economically viable. These lands are subject to special rules and regulations regarding use, development, and sale, and are managed for the public good.
