This data layer indicates the vegetation types and characteristics on Forest Service lands within the Superior National Forest. It was developed by the US Forest Service and is summarized by "stand", the basic management unit for National Forest activities. Stands are areas where vegetation characteristics are relatively homogeneous and distinct from adjacent stands, and are characterized by their existing vegetation and other attributes. Stand vegetation, and other data, support forest management, project-level planning, decision making, implementation, and monitoring in the Chippewa National Forest.
