Extent of available data.
This data layer indicates the locations of wildfires in Minnesota. It was developed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR).The MN DNR is responsible for fires on both state land and on rural private land where there is no other agency with primary responsibility. The location of and information about these wildfires is included in these data. These fires can act as an important and beneficial natural disturbance for ecosystems. Regular fires can prevent the accumulation of excess fuel and benefit species that have adapted to wildfires - creating unique ecosystems that allow certain plants, animals, and fungi to thrive.
